Many foot problems are caused by or made worse by the shoes that we wear. Some examples are given below:
- People with diabetes who have lost feeling in their feet tend to wear too tight shoes and this can cause ulcers (skin loss) which may be difficult to heal.
- Flat pump type shoes may contribute to heel pain.
- Tight shoes may make pain from bunions worse.
- High heeled shoes can result in contraction of the achilles tendon.
Podiatrists at Orthotika will assess your footwear and provide advice on its suitability and help patients source appropriate shoes. They will also help with the most appropriate insoles (orthotics).
Shoe sanitisation and deodorisation is available particularly for people with fungal foot infections to reduce the possibility of reinfection during treatments.
